The race categories chart illustrates how the categories rank and how your horse can progress in its racing career. This chart demonstrates the eligibility rules for each race category: Age, Wins and Grade. As your horse progresses in Age and achieves more Wins, so will it progress along the categories. The chart also shows you the nomination fee per race category and grade. The innate ability of your horse determines its Grade.

Each race category also has handicapping rules associated with it which determine the weight carried by your horse. Handicapping is explained in Racing Explained (under the Races menu), Section 5 (“Handicapping”). Go to Race Categories (also under the Races menu) to view the handicapping for each category.
