Derekw10 on winning both The Derby & The Oaks (July 2007)

What was your first reaction when your horses crossed the finish line? To win the derby is just ….. Breathtaking. Ever since joining Raceclubs this is the final I most wanted to win no idea why but it just was. Not having a runner in last season race was gutting. So when I saw Shot Gun Mike had a nice classic 2200 horse at age 2 I thought there my Derby horse for the season later. I had to make a big offer to get the horse in to the Derekw10 stable and for once the gamble paid off.

Well when I saw the Oaks going yielding I was very happy as I had the perfect going for my horse. I have joked about before with friends that I would do the Oaks derby double one season and now I have. Winning the Derby was a dream for me winning the Derby and Oaks in the same season is well was master card would say Priceless lol.

How optimistic were you about winning? To be honest I thought the only thing that could stop me was a very low jockey everything was in my favour. The ground the distance it would off be very disappointing to lose the race as Cozmic is the best 3 year old at 2200 but quiet some way, and I think last night he proved it yet again.

I believe all my horses could win the finals this season that it just depended on what jock they hit. After the first 2 days of bad results it was like my dreams were being taken away from me. My bigger danger in this race I feel was Andy’s horse and Zodiac. Andy’s had out standing form over 2200 but I knew yielding was the horse worst going. I knew zodiac would go close as I all most bought the horse once and have said to the owner if comes up yielding there no reason why you can’t win.

Who is the first person you share your victory with? I am normally on MSN with the boys. The girl friend was around last night I tried to get her to cheer Cozmic on with me but she was not interested that until it won and I told her the prize me and my big mouth lol. Lee (MaxWiz) called me and said its £1000 go take her shopping so I think it has been spent all ready.

As Cozmic crossed the line I was in a chat with a few of the MSN crew at the time Meat, Racing Slim, October Madness, The wise wizard they were the first to say well done and it’s about time I won one of the big ones. Then e-mail and messages flew in from Bond007, Shot Gun Mike, Big Johnny, Topcert, so it was all nice to see people happy for me.

I had so many messages coming in from MSN and e-mails that I all most missed the start to this final so the nerves never settled in and I was still shaking from Cozmic win, when Diva crossed the line in 1st I just up and ran in to the bedroom to give the girl friend a massive snog.

How do you prepare for a Challenge Series race & what advice would you give other trainers? Depends on what challenge race it is. For the Derby its quiet easy as it’s all of level weights. Just make sure you put your horse in every qualifier race on the Monday and with a month left to go see where you are in the points table and then your there. Still a lot of luck to win a final as you everything to be right on the night but when your day comes there is no better buzz.
To be honest I would not give away my secrets to everyone I believe it’s much better to talk to people face to face and then learn for your self. I got all my advice from Andy and Dallas but with all the advice in the world you still have to find things out for your self.

How are you going to spend your winnings? I just get a buzz I used to be a massive gambler and since playing Raceclubs I have learned to control my self when it comes to betting. Well most of the time. I will spend the money by investing most off it back in to Raceclubs- in hope I get my next champion, but I am going to use some of the money to go put towards a holiday next year for me and the girlfriend.

Final Comments: Just want to say well done to AML and bigjohnnywadd, nice 2nd and 3rds there I got worried AML was going to over take mine on the line but I managed to hold on.

RC: What sparked your interest in Raceclubs?
dererkw10: There is a Arcade horse racing game called Derby Owners Club that I played and was looking for that and came across your site and thought what the heck.

RC: What motivated you, to remain a loyal player on Raceclubs?
dererkw10: I want to become one of the best on the site and to do that I have to keep playing.

RC: When you started the game back in the beginning days, who was your personal motivator on Raceclubs?
dererkw10: No one really, my motivation is, I want to become one of the top trainers and even try and take there titles (2 hopes bob one of them). For next season my goal is to be one of the top 5 trainers on the site.

RC: Are you involved in real horse racing and if so in what capacity?
dererkw10: Only when I do my bollocks backing pigs to win, LOL.

RC: How does Virtual Horse Racing on Raceclubs compare to real horse racing?
dererkw10: Well I can pick winners in real horse racing and on raceclubs I can’t. I think raceculbs is more fun though as you can have loads of horses, and I’m the trainer so don’t have to pay my massive training bills, LOL.

RC: What are your favorite real horse racing events?
dererkw10: I love horse jumping events and really like the King George day at Kempton.

RC: When away from Raceclubs, do you have any other hobbies or interests away from virtual horse racing?
dererkw10: Nope not really just the day to day normal life.

RC: Tell us about your first winner and your other top horses.
dererkw10: My first winner was “she a beauty” (I shot her now). I did not have a clue when I first started. I was nominating all my horses in top races and they were not good enough.

The couple of horses I love “Sompting Roses”, one of the best filly’s over 1600 in the game. “Superzonic Blue”again very happy with this horse. Both of them were purchased from an Auction, they previously belonged to Stable “Dallas1”. One other horse I like is “My Ding-Aling” is one of my favourites because it’s the best I have, purchased from the Sales Ring so far.

RC: Tell us about your best win and why it meant so much to you as a stable owner
dererkw10: “Colossi of Memnon” is my first Qualifier Win, I bought this horse from Stable owner “Dallas1”. First time I ran him he won on ground he did not really like, my best win to date.

RC: List some of your top achievements
dererkw10: This being my first full season, I set some goals as I was not in the stats at all for March and since have shifted rankings I'm now in the top 20. My goals this season were 50 Wins which i have achitived I need 22 more and I
will be on 100 wins for season. I am over 1000 runs now and did not think I
would run so many times.

RC: Tell us about your most memorable moments on Raceclubs?
dererkw10: It will have to be when I win my first final.

RC: What was you most embarrassing moment on Raceclubs?
dererkw10: When I first started, I put “she a beauty” in a Getminted Qualifier and it only just hit 11 over 2850 no chance. I just did not have a clue what I was doing (still don’t, LOL).

RC: What would you typically do before a big/major racing event?
dererkw10: I am normally on line talking to “Meat”, “Bigboysteve”, “sucker2”, “G Barr”, “wigs7”, “Maximas” and “tank” giving it large.

RC: What are your goals for future racing on Raceclubs?
dererkw10: To become as big as Ken and Dallas1.
